Room 33, Hotel San Carlo Gardi, Lugano
Just when I started wondering why the train was going further from Lugano, we realised we had forgotten to change trains at Giubiasco and had to wait for some time at the Bellinzona platform for the Lugano-bound train.
So thanks to our mistake, we arrived in Lugano almost half an hour late. Immediately booked a hotel through the station, then took the little tram down to the wonderful old town.

With a little help, we made our way in the drizzle to our hotel. Dropped off our stuff then set off for the shops.

Lugano turned out to be as interesting as Zermatt, but in a high fashion, branded kind of way, surrounded by old-looking shophouses rather than wooden Swiss chalets. We explored the town square and some of the labyrinthine alleys, where I bought a nice long turquoise skirt. :)

A short walk by the lake later, it was almost six and the shops were closing.

Returned to the hotel room to rest for half an hour before leaving again in search of food. Found an Italian restaurant; we each had a large plate of spaghetti aglio olio and half a pizza. For me, this extremely heavy meal (though not as heavy as yesterday's!) was accompanied by a glass of Coke.
Since we were so full afterwards, we wandered about the darkened streets for a while before heading back to the hotel once again.
